Hydrogen Fuel Cell Cars

Fuel cells have the power to change our world, we are dedicated to making fuel cell technology a reality to replace the internal combustion engine in your car, with a clean and pollution free system. Hydrogen powered cars look just like other cars on the road today but they are cleaner quieter more efficient, and work very differently.

How do they work?

Hydrogen and compressed air flow to the module which contains the fuel cell stack of your cell engine; this consists of the proton exchange membrane and submodule coupled with assistance required in a typical fuel cell. The electricity produced by the fuel cell is delivered to the drive system in the vehicle, the drive system converts electrical power into the mechanical energy that drives the wheels of the car. Fuel cells generated electricity and they can be used to power a car, truck, bus or other vehicle for as long as Hydrogen can supply the fuel cell.

Hydrogen cars, how they work?

A Hydrogen Fuel Cell is made up of two plates connected to electrodes into thin layers of platinum-based catalyst that are separated by a plastic membrane which would fit within. They react chemically to create electricity, Hydrogen from an on-board storage tank and Oxygen from the air flow through channels on the plates, Hydrogen moves on one side of the membrane air on the other the cell splits the Hydrogen molecules into protons, and electrons. The protons can pass the membrane; the electrons cannot and have to pass through an external circuit creating useful electricity. On the Oxygen side the membrane of protons and electrons react with Oxygen from the air in the presence of a secondary catalyst generating water and heat, by stacking together single cells like slices to produce the required amount of power just like your car fuel cells needs fuel to operate.

Where does Hydrogen come from?

Fuel cells use Hydrogen as their fuel which can be produced in many different ways, in which produced can be stored as a compressed gas and liquid or any chemical or metal compound. Different areas of the world will create Hydrogen in different ways depending on economics and available resources. Hydrogen can be delivered to fuelling stations by road, barge, rail or pipeline or can be made on site at gas stations. There are many options available to enable the hydrogen infrastructure to grow.

Fuelling a Hydrogen fuel cell

Fuelling the vehicle is very similar to the way you fuel your vehicle today, it requires a special sealed connection before the hydrogen can be pumped into the vehicle storage tanks it only takes a few minutes. Hydrogen fuel cell cars emissions are limited to water and heat, in operation this means to the air around us is clean and green.

Advantages of fuel cells

It is three times more efficient than your petrol or diesel engine, and does not create pollution. Additional benefits include increased performance and on-board power high reliability and greater flexibility in vehicle design and engine layout. Zero CO2 emissions mean that they are good for the environment as they do not emit any pollution from the exhaust, this also means they have Free Road Tax and are congestion charge exempt, as well as benefiting from other government incentives.
