A new Vauxhall ADAM Rocks in

Vauxhall’s rugged new city car-crossover has rocked up in the form of the ADAM Rocks Air which is on sale now from £14,695. Featuring a standard fit folding fabric roof, the first cars will be delivered to their owners later this month.

The ADAM Rocks Air is easily identifiable from other models in the range courtesy of its raised suspension, wider stance, ubiquitous plastic cladding to protect the bodywork, and the electric canvas roof which is capable of retracting in just seven seconds at the press of a button all the way to the C-pillars.

It is also the first car in the Vauxhall line-up to use the company’s hi-tech 113bhp petrol engine which should be able to achieve 60mpg on the combined fuel cycle and emit under 100g/km of CO2. It offers 122lb ft of pulling power which is transferred to the front wheels via a new 6-speed manual gearbox. It is capable of accelerating to 62mph from a standing start in 9.9 seconds.

Alternative engine options include a 4-cylinder 1.2-litre producing 85bhp or a 68bhp 1.4-litre unit – both mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Hill-start assist will be a standard feature, but other safety features available include park assist and a blind spot warning system.

Creature comforts also feature, including some big-car luxuries. For example, the ADAM Rocks Air is the only model in its class to offer heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. However, climate control is a £300 option, as is Vauxhall’s £275 IntelliLink system which apes the screen of your Android or Apple smartphone to offer app functionality in your car. The IntelliLink system also features Bluetooth connectivity and is capable of using your phone to provide satellite navigation.

Stuart Harris, Vauxhall’s Head of Carline brand, told first4auto: “ADAM Rocks Air combines the toughness of a crossover with the coolness of open-air driving. It’s the perfect ADAM for active drivers wanting to stand out from the crowd.”
