Toyota tease a hybrid RAV4

A hybrid version of the Toyota RAV4 is on its way, as depicted in a teaser photo released by the company ahead of its public debut at the New York motor show next week. The hybrid badge is clearly visible in the image but the company has provided absolutely no information to go along with it.

A Business Edition variant of the RAV4 went on sale in January from £23,995, further boosting the range and was introduced to maintain its competitiveness amongst rivals such as the Ford Kuga, Nissan Qashqai and Mazda CX-5. However, the RAV4 would be the first amongst this group to offer a hybrid model in their line-up.

The teaser image does tell us one thing though – and that is that the LED tail lights have been altered and are no longer the wrap around versions that reside on the current model. Instead, what we will now get are clear units, with two strips of light running towards the centre.

The RAV has been a strong car for the Japanese manufacturer with 267,698 of them finding homes around the globe in 2014 alone – a year-on-year increase of 22.7%. In February this year, 41,767 examples were sold – an improvement of 25.3% compared to the same month last year.
