C4 Cactus Goes On Sale In The UK

The all-new Citroën C4 Cactus “crosshatch” has gone on sale in the UK, priced from £12,990 up to £18,910. The entry level price will buy you the PureTech 75 Touch model with a 5-speed manual gearbox, whilst the top-level price will secure you the ETG6-equipped e-HDI 92 Flair.

The C4 Cactus is built in Madrid and uses the same platform as the company’s supermini-sized C3 hatchback. To some, the C4 Cactus blends a curious mix of traditional small-family hatchback with contemporary crossover attributes and concept car features. The C4 Cactus measures 4,160mm long, 1,730mm wide and 1,480mm high. In addition to accommodating five passengers, their luggage can also be carried: 358-litres of space is available with the rear seats in place, extending to 1,170-litres when they are folded.

Although this makes the C4 Cactus broadly comparable in size to the company’s own C4 small family hatchback, it is actually 200kg lighter due to the fact that it is underpinned by the C3 architecture.

The most obvious talking point is the ‘Airbump’ technology which helps to protect the bodywork from the majority of minor impacts.

Under the bonnet can be one of six different engines: four petrol and two diesel. The petrol models are PureTech 75, PureTech 82 (with or without Stop & Start technology) and PureTech 110 PS S&S. The two diesel choices are e-HDI 92 and BlueHDi 100. All the diesel models qualify for exemption from the Vehicle Excise Duty (e.g. Road Tax) since their CO2 emissions are all under 100g/km. Only one of the petrol engines is totally exempt: the PureTech 82 S&S.

As intimated in the opening paragraph, the C4 Cactus can be had with a choice of three gearboxes: a 5-speed manual and two automatics with either 5- or 6-speeds and labelled ETG (Efficient Tronic Gearbox). Despite its rugged looks, rest assured that the C4 Cactus is very much a front-wheel drive only car.

There are three trim levels available in the C4 Cactus: Touch, Feel and the range-topping Flair.

Inside, even the entry-level model comes with wide sofa-inspired front seats and all models come with a 7-inch touch-drive interface which controls features such as the air conditioning, DAB digital radio and vehicle settings – and on higher-level models, the satellite navigation, Bluetooth and other connected services. All models also feature ‘Magic Wash’ which, according to Citroen, is an “innovation that integrates targeted washer jets into the ends of the wiper blades, delivering the optimum amount of fluid directly in front of the blade itself”. Big car features are also available as options in the form of Park Assist, a reversing camera, cornering lights, hill start assist and a UV-treated fixed glass panoramic sunroof.

The C4 Cactus is available in a combination of 10 body colours and 3 interior trim colours, not to mention a choice of five different upholsteries.
