The BMW i3 is part of the BMW I range and was released at the same time as the i8 supercar. The i3 is a fully electric car capable of around 80 miles on a full charge and is more than just a city car. It can also be purchased with a range extender option at an additional £3000. If you don’t want to opt for the range extender version, BMW also offer BMW Access, where you can borrow a fleet car for around 7 days per year for those longer trips.

This i3 for sale features a four door, hatch back design, with rear folding seats to create a larger boot space if required. The exterior design is unique and matches that of the i8 and is common of that of the BMW I range. The car has U-shaped day time running lights, and like the i8 has blue trim giving it a defined look. The dash features a pop up display and you have all the cars information available, from the climate control and entertainment system to the advance vehicle management system that tells you, your charge, efficiency performance and battery life. This information can also be seen from a Smartphone Appthat is available, and is perfect for checking your cars charge when you are in the shops or sitting at home.

As with a lot of electric cars the BMW i3 has high torque at around 250Nm and thus this creates very fast acceleration, in fact you could accelerate faster than most cars. The opposite to the acceleration is the deceleration, in order to regenerate electricity the motor also acts as a brake when you take your foot off the accelerator.

The stats; The i3 features 170 hp, 0 to 62 mph in 7.2 seconds, CO2 emissions zero, average energy consumption is 12.9 kWh per 62 miles. Real-world electric range is up to 100 miles, with the range extender model up 187 miles. Basic on the road pricing is around £31,000, the VED band A is free to tax and the insurance group is 21. Other benefits are that the i3 is congestion charge exempt and bus lanes throughout London can be used for electric vehicles. Government Grants are available for up to £5000 towards the purchase price of the vehicle.

BMW have five ‘I’ range dealers, we recommend contacting Coopers BMW Norwich, if you are interested in purchasing a new BMW i3 or arranging a test drive. This car has been given a 4 star plus rating at Due to its super high efficiency, and low emissions coupled with its green manufacturing process as this car is manufactured in a way that minimises its carbon footprint along with a 30% weight reduction. Making it a true eco car and the i3 sales and demand have reflected that.

If range anxiety is a worry for you, there are a large number of charging network schemes available, for you to use and if you plan your journeys properly you will not have an issue running out of charge.

The i3 can take up to 8 hours to fully charge from a standard supply, however fast chargers can achieve a full charge in 4-6 hours, and super chargers such as those from ecotricity are free to use and can give you around 80% battery in under an hour. The charging lead is simple to plug in and cannot be removed once inserted unless the vehicle is unlocked. BMW supply a charging lead, but you can have a home charging unit installed, for details on this and a list of recommended installers follows the link.
