The Tesla model III is a pure electric car brought to us by Tesla the American electric car manufacture. The model III is estimated for release 2017 after the much anticipated Model X Crossover.
The Model III is aimed at competing with the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes-Benz C Class. This new electric car as said from the CEO of Tesla Elon Musk is going to be in the price range of £30,000 for the base model.
The price range of this new car, along with the build quality is likely to make this the best-selling electric car from Tesla. It is within the price range of the Nissan Leaf the BMW i3 and the recently released Audi A3 e-tron.
The Range
Tesla’s cars are renowned for having the biggest range for any electric vehicle manufacture and that will be no exception with the Model III. Tesla has announced that you will be able to travel and minimum of 180 miles per charge, and that could increase to 210 miles per charge with the bigger battery pack.
It is thought that due to the size of this vehicle being smaller than other Tesla vehicles, the battery pack will start at 50 KWh rising to a possible 75 KWh. With this in mind we expect the performance to be that to be similar to the Tesla model S, the 85 KWh which gives you a swift 0-62 mph in 5.5 seconds.
Tesla have also been developing a battery swapping service, where your battery can be swapped for a fully charged one, in around 90 seconds, totally eliminating the need to charge when on the roads. We will have to keep waiting to see how this development evolves.
Looks, Size and Stats
The Tesla Model 3 will be similar to the Model S with around a 20% reduction in size. Tesla are estimating that by 2020 they will be selling around 500,000 units. One of the reasons Tesla will be able to produce long range battery packs at affordable prices, is because they have made a $5 billion investment into a brand-new battery Gigafactory which is being built in Nevada USA.
