A Mitsubishi dealership in Bridgend has partnered with a firm of accountants to spread the word about the financial benefits of the best-selling, arguably game-changing and multi-award-winning Outlander PHEV.

Nathaniel Cars is lending David Wright Accountants one of its plug-in hybrids for a year so that it can be showcased to clients.

Since being launched in April 2014, the Outlander PHEV has swiftly become the UK’s best-selling plug-in hybrid, with sales having already passed the 10,000 mark, and it’s not difficult to see why it’s proving so popular.

Using both electric and petrol power, it has an electric range of 32½ miles, emits just 44g/km of CO2 and boasts an official combined fuel consumption figure of 148mpg. This means that no vehicle tax is payable, plus it’s exempt from the London congestion charge.

It’s also eligible for the government’s £5,000 Plug-in Car Grant, and because the Benefit In Kind (BiK) is just 5%, it means a virtual pay rise of several thousand pounds a year for company car drivers. What’s more, for business owners there are savings on National Insurance contributions to be had, plus it qualifies for 100% First Year Allowance against business profits.

Last year, the Outlander PHEV won Diesel Car’s Best Alternative Fuel Vehicle award as well as Business Car’s Best Green Development gong in its Techie Awards, while in May this year it was named Best Ultra Low Emission Vehicle at the Fleet World Honours.

Stephen Griffiths, director at David Wright Accountants, told EcoCars4Sale: “This is a great vehicle for businesses. For company car drivers the savings are really significant – 5% Benefit in Kind is incredible for a company car and 100% First Year Allowance against business profits is also a great draw for companies. The Outlander PHEV is the most tax-efficient vehicle on the market at the moment – the tax savings and, indeed, running cost savings are quite significant. We’ve had a lot of interest from clients. As a tax adviser it really is an easy sell for people when they are thinking of changing their company car.”

Wayne Griffiths, Managing Director of Nathaniel Cars in David Street, told us: “It’s great to get an accountant’s perspective regarding this environmentally friendly hybrid. Stephen’s comments show that the PHEV has great monetary benefits for company car users. Nathaniel Cars are very pleased to work in association with David Wright Accountants to promote this vehicle to their customers.”
